Christine Osborne
Utah DEQ, Water Quality Basin Coordinator
Salt Lake City, UT
I am an environmental planner and NEPA coordinator with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Water Quality (DWQ) in the Watershed Protection Section. I am the Communication Lead for the San Juan Watershed Program, coordinate NEPA comments from DWQ on federal projects, am a member of the Integrated Report team, and provide technical editing on division documents.
I have a particular interest in scientific risk communication. I have created a user-friendly risk communication handbook for scientists and have written strategic communication plans on a wide range of environmental topics from harmful algal blooms to PFAS contamination. I co-presented DEQ's HABs communication strategy in a 2018 webinar for the Environmental Council of States (ECOS) and presented at the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute Conference in June 2019 and 2020. I have served as a co-chair of the Risk Communication group and am currently a member of the Training Group for the Harmful Cyanobacterial Team for the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC).
